Just a few days ago India launched the EOS-03 earth observation satellite on August 12. from the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle in India. And though it was able to launch into the air it was not able to stay in orbit.
Why is it not staying in orbit?
The reason that this satellite is not staying in orbit is that it didn't reach the appropriate velocity required to stay in orbit. If this satellite was successful then it was supposed to be orbiting in line with the earth. The rocket hasn't fallen yet, however, but is expected to in a few days.
What was this rocket supposed to do
This rocket was geostationary. this means that this rocket would orbit in line with the Earth. The purpose of this orbiting was to provide images of different weather patterns such as clouds and thunderstorms which can then later be used for people on Earth.
Why did this rocket fall? This rocket was able to go up because it had some ignition but didn't complete the third stage of ignition therefore not reaching the velocity required to stay in orbit in space. According to Reuter.com Jonathan McDowell(American astronomer) assumes that the satellite has probably fallen into the Andaman Sea, around the Thailand Area.
