Can the new ability to cancel magnetic fields be revolutionary for some industries?

A 178 year old theory, popularly known as ‘Earnshaw’s Theorem’, suggested that there are some specific limitations for the ability of shaping magnetic fields and thus magnetic fields at a distance could not be cancelled. 


Recently, two physicists at the University of Sussex have found a way to falsify this theory to an extent. This means they can effectively cancel magnetic fields at a distance and that too in a way that has practical benefits making them the first ones to do so.


To make this successful, the physicists created a device which comprises a careful arrangement of wires. This specified arrangement of wires creates additional magnetic fields which have the tendency to cancel the unwanted magnetic fields during any experiment. Another distinct feature of this invention is that unlike the previous trials, this works on low frequencies and static fields. This is the feature that unlocks useful applications of this device.
